Stepping out of my comfort zone

Well, this is certainly a time of firsts for me. I'm stepping out of my comfort zone in style (yes, I have lots of new shoes, but that's another story). I am trying new things and conquering old fears. Some examples:

  • I am no longer afraid of dogs. For some reason this hit me on Monday while I was running on my favorite trail. I just had to stop and pet this *big* dog while I thought "wow, I couldn't have done this two years ago."
  • I am able to walk into a large place full of people that I don't know [such as the gym] by myself and am not petrified. I am still happiest in small, cozy places; but to not even think about where I'm going, walk in alone, and be comfortable? Joy.
  • I went to a spinning class last night! And I loved it! I must admit that I was quite nervous, but John was with me and very supportive. The instructor, Spook, was great too. Spook is probably in his sixties and by looking at him, you would not think he was very active. That is the farthest from the truth! Not to mention how encouraging he was to me personally. He would jump off the bike every now and then and make his rounds around the room, making and adjustment here and there, and each time stopping by me and giving me an encouraging word.
  • I've signed up for a 14 mile trail race in the fall. A race! With a bunch of other people! Me! ha ha ha... is this out of character or what?!
To be continued... have to get ready for work now. Being on time is yet to be conquered.
