Stand by me

I have a love-hate relationship with the way people deal with their passions. Let me explain...

Yesterday at gym: Man on elliptical, two machines in-bween us, I at the end, trainer between us. Friendly conversation back and forth. Conversation turns to the Ravens loss on Sunday. I casually express that I'm a Steelers fan... HOLD IT! the guy didn't even listen to the rest of my sentence "but I couldn't cheer for our victory because of McGahee's injury at the end of the game". The man totally tuned me off. I mean, HE MADE A FACE OF DISGUST AND TURNED HIS FACE AWAY FROM ME. Freaking grow up dude!

My friend Mina: Searching for "spirituality", forever inquiring and strongly expressing her opinions about God/Christ. She has never been critical of my faith. She knows what I believe and she's eager to ask questions and hear me talk about my beliefs. We have never had an argument. We can talk freely.

As an immigrant from a very oppressed country, I have a special appreciation of the freedoms offered by this country. I appreciate people expressing their views about politics, faith, race, and controversial issues. What I don't appreciate is people getting defensive about their opinions, trying to shove them down your throat, and getting downright hostile when you even hint of disagreement. I especially dislike when people look at me with disgust over my free-will choices. But like my Lord, I look upon them with pity and pray for them... for He did not come to accuse and condemn, but to save the lost.

May God give me the grace to continue to hold my tongue, smile (albeit pitifully), and pray.

Go Steelers, Go Obama, Go Rick Warren, Go freedom of speech,
Go FREEDOM!
